Description
Li Ti Dog is a digital abstract art paintography image that began with a photo I took of our beloved pit bull. The metamorphosis from lion and tiger strength and aggression to a dog that is truly considered part of the family says quite a lot about the too-often misunderstood pit bull.
American Pit Bull Terriers (APBT) can be aggressive if not trained properly and there are backyard breeders who breed poor quality stock resulting in personality disorders and physical abnormalities. Some APBTs are still used in the cruel "sport" of dog fighting. These dogs are large in body and even larger in heart. Many people who choose to own a pit bull will later decide that there's just too much dog for them to handle. When we adopted ours from the animal shelter, 80 percent of the dogs there were pit bulls and pit bull crosses. Most of the pit bulls in shelters end up being euthanized despite the efforts of pit bull lovers who try to educate people before they decide on a pit bull and then offer advice on training after the adoption or purchase.
Our Luca was barely six months old when she was turned in. Still a puppy-minded dog when we adopted her, those long legs would flail in all directions when she was trying to play or be affectionate towards us. We got our share of scratches and bruises until we taught her to behave in a proper manner. She still has some of the lion and tiger qualities but, at two years of age, she has certainly morphed into a loving, huggable, trainable, trustworthy lap dog wannabe. The saying "Not everyone needs a pit bull, but every pit bull needs someone" is so true of these beautiful, warm-hearted creatures.
